The high concentration of greenhouse gases (heat-trapping gases) particularly CARBON dioxide in the atmosphere is the main reason why our climate is changing too much too soon. Our daily activities such as the heavy use of energy emit CARBON dioxide without us knowing it. While it naturally occurs, we as a global community have contributed to the rapid warming of the world. Climate change has manifested its impacts in the increase of the global temperature, the melting of the ice caps, the rise of sea level, the erratic weather patterns causing flooding, El Niño and La Niña, and the vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, among others. Indeed, it is changing the face of the planet and the way we humans live, again without us realizing it.

Climate change is real but we can slow it down. We can make a personal commitment to protect our climate.

The Low Carbon Diet is a behavioral-change campaign that encourages you to reduce your CARBON dioxide emissions on a personal level by 10 kgs everyday. You can do your share by using less energy, conserving water, carpooling, reducing waste and recycling. And no matter how simple your act is, you form part of the global effort to protect our climate.

You can get on it in your school, at the office, in your home, in your car, and with the public transport - practically anywhere at any given time.

Truly, reducing our CARBON dioxide emissions has never been this PERSONAL.

Let's be on the Low Carbon Diet for a Healthy Climate.

The Low Carbon Diet campaign was made possible through the support provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Manila Observatory through the DEVCAP Project.  The opinions expressed herein are those of KLIMA and do not necessarily reflect the views of the USAID.

Awareness is the first step to reducing the CARBON dioxide emissions in our daily activities.

Remember the heavy floods that took away many lives? What about the typhoons that came one week after another? And do you feel that it's getting warmer and warmer?

These are some effects of our climate changing too much too soon. Our modern way of living produces large volumes of CARBON dioxide from burning of fuels like oil, coal, and gas that disturb the balance of our climate.

We can make a personal commitment to reduce CARBON dioxide emissions from our everyday activities. Use less energy, conserve water, carpool, reduce waste, and recycle.

Let's be on the LOW CARBON DIET for a HEALTHY CLIMATE.
Be aware.

You too can do it.

One recycled aluminum can saves enough energy to power your classroom's fluorescent light for 20 hours.

Every time we recycle, we prevent the emission of greenhouse gases particularly CARBON dioxide produced by the use of electricity to create new products - that is energy conservation. What is even simpler, turn off lights and electric fans when you leave your classrooms.

CARBON dioxide emissions account for large volumes of greenhouse gases that cause the climate to change.

Let's be on the LOW CARBON DIET for a HEALTHY CLIMATE. Reduce waste. Conserve energy.

You too can do it.

Most of us own a cell phone unit. Everyday we call dad or mom and send text messages to our friends until we run out of battery.

When charging, please unplug after battery is full because a charger that is plugged into the wall will still consume energy.

CARBON dioxide is emitted in the production of energy which accounts for large volumes of greenhouse gases that cause the climate to change.

Let's be on the LOW CARBON DIET for a HEALTHY CLIMATE. Conserve energy.

You too can do it.

When we leave our vehicles running while parked, they are still producing CARBON dioxide that contributes to climate change.

If everyone in the country were to idle their cars even for just 5 minutes a day, 115,000 kg of CARBON dioxide will be released into the atmosphere - that is equivalent to the weight of 77 vehicles.

This adds to the rising levels of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere leading to global warming and erratic weather patterns.

Let's be on the LOW CARBON DIET for a HEALTHY CLIMATE.
Turn off engine when parked.

You too can do it.

I am sure you know that the paper you are using to print your reports on is made from trees - that means sacrificing 1 tree to produce 17 reams of copy paper.

But did you know that trees, when cut, slowly emit CARBON dioxide up to 50% of their weight?

CARBON dioxide emissions account for large volumes of greenhouse gases that cause the climate to change.

Let's be on the LOW CARBON DIET for a HEALTHY CLIMATE. Use Paper Wisely and Recycle.

You too can do it.

The well-being of my kids is of the utmost importance to me. Unknowingly, our high CARBON lifestyle poses the biggest threat to our children's future.

Whenever we consume energy, we emit CARBON dioxide which accounts for large volumes of greenhouse gases that cause the climate to change.

We, as moms, play a big part in serving as role models for our children at home. Teach them to conserve water and electricity. Buy energy efficient appliances.

Let's be on the LOW CARBON DIET for a HEALTHY CLIMATE. Conserve energy.

You too can do it.

Huwag mag-aksaya.

Kaya mo rin ito.

The Low Carbon Diet is an Integrated Marketing Communications campaign that combines the right set of different tools to effectively deliver a strong message. It is a one-year plan divided into two phases of implementation. The campaign features high-profile real people caught in the act of being on the Low CARBON Diet in different settings of their private lives. Instead of feeling guilt as it is usually felt in this kind of situation, individuals captured shocked on camera are actually delighted to finally expose ways on how to achieve the diet, ultimately contributing to the protection of the climate.

The campaign would not have been made possible without the generous contribution of time and expertise of several individuals. klima would like to thank Mr. JC Gonzalez, Ms. Patty Laurel, Mr. Paolo Santos, Ms. Chiqui Roa-Puno, Mr. Guillermo Luz, and Mr. Vener Cardenas for accepting with open arms our invitation to advocate the Low Carbon Diet. We also would wish to thank Mr. Pancho Escaler, Ms. Alessa Libongco, Ms. Jasmine Mendiola, Mr. Jopet Puno, and Mr. Jose Verde for wholeheartedly sharing their skills in the design and the photo shoot of our advocates. We would want to say thank you to Ms. Genie Lorenzo, Ms. Alessa Libongco, Mr. Lou Pacio, Ms. Landa Valdez, Mr. Dale Ibay and Ms. Mau Banaga as well for introducing us to our advocates. Lastly, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the Manila Observatory, Coffeeheads, the Ateneo Office of Administrative Services, Puno Residence, and the Makati Business Club for the use of their premises for the photo shoot. Our gratitude to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Manila Observatory as well. Thank you all for making it happen.
